SIMOF 2014 and FLAMENCA FASHION continued…

The lights went off and the show began… Nothing more to say just look!

He sung amazing!

I couldn't take pictures fast enough, the camera did not cooperate,  there is something about too many lights, darkness and speed, that makes it impossible to take pictures without a professional camera.  Oh well, by the end I just had to sit and enjoy the experience without taking more pictures.

Fashion Report:

Sleeves:
I immediately saw a big difference in sleeves, there were many changes to its shape, it seems the bigger is better.  On some dresses the sleeves were puffy, wide, and see-through.  Others sleeves ,were short, with plenty of ruffles, softer ruffles, and others, had ornamented shoulder pads, like the ones in a bullfighter's outfit.

Beautiful!

Fabric:
Polka dots are always popular, but now they have more texture, they are raised on the fabric.  However, dots now have competition… Big flowers!  Yes, granny's couch, or granny's curtain flower prints.  Yep, that was my initial reaction and many of my friends reaction too, but the result is beautiful, so I apologize grandma, you have great taste.

with floral patterns, antique look is the best.

Length:
Dresses are not dragging or sweeping the feria grounds anymore.  Many end at the ankle, this means you have to choose your shoes well.  As for the ruffles?  There were all kinds, "Canasteros", mermaid skirt, with one big ruffle, or the traditional cascading, multi-tiered ruffles.

Mantoncillos:
Montoncillos (shawls) for the neck are still in.  Plain fringes sewn over the dress neckline, or mantoncillos over the dress, are still very popular.  One difference though, the fringes are much shorter than previous years.  The Mantoncillos are made of silk, velvet or light tulle (plumeti). Some are hand painted on silk, with contrasting fringes, they look amazing.

A good mantoncillo has good quality thread to make fringes.
It shows, so don't go cheap on this accessory

Accessories:
The flamenca accessories are more elaborate, even crafty.  Cameos are very popular, as well as other elaborate pins and earrings.  Many of the earrings have ribbon, or lace roses, tulle and/or semiprecious stones.  Antique gold seems to be popular, as well as pastel colors, baby blue and gold, or beige and pink.

Cameos with antique gold

Coral earrings are a classic
they will never go out of style.  Good investment.

Lets get crafty, glue some fabric, beads and chains to the earrings.

Decoupage is also big

Here we have earrings with rick rack, beads, and chains.

There is still more fashion to come, so stay tuned.
